Jiu Jitsu (also known as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or BJJ) is a martial art, combat sport and a self-defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It is widely regarded as the world’s most effective grappling art.
Jiu Jitsu promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend himself or herself against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique—most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds. Jiu Jitsu can be trained for sport grappling tournaments (both gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as “rolling”) and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on the ability to apply Jiu Jitsu concepts and techniques against an uncooperative opponent.
In our classes, students learn how to execute and defend takedowns, escape undesirable bottom positions, perform sweeps and reversals from the bottom, advance position along the “positional hierarchy” and apply various submission holds.
In addition to being a sport and self-defense system, BJJ is a great way to improve fitness and get in shape. After a few months of training you can expect to improve your cardio, gain flexibility, get stronger and increase your agility and body awareness … all while having a great time!

No Gi Jiu Jitsu
If you are new to BJJ and do not yet have a uniform, the No Gi class is a great place to start. The majority of fundamental Jiu Jitsu techniques are applicable both with the gi and without it. However, there are some aspects of training without the gi that are unique both to sport Jiu Jitsu as well as to self defense training, making it the perfect compliment to our regular Jiu Jitsu classes. If you are ready to jump in on your first No Gi class, we suggest wearing a compression style top, and either long tights or board shorts as seen in the picture. It is best to avoid overly loose, baggy clothing.
This class meets on Mon / Wed / Fri at 6:15 PM and typically lasts 60 minutes.
WOMEN'S JIU JITSU
We realize that starting a martial art can take you out of your comfort zone, and this can be especially true for women jumping right into a (traditionally) predominantly male environment. It is with that in mind that we created a class just for women. You will receive all the great instruction of our Jiu Jitsu program, but get the added benefits of training in an all-female class, taught by a world-class female instructor.
Classes are on Tue + Thu at 7:15 PM and typically last for 75 minutes.
Our kickboxing class gives students a blend of both sport martial arts and self-defense applications, plus an overall awesome workout. With a strong emphasis on the basics and building proper technique, students of all levels can participate comfortably and know they will be improving their skills while also getting into great shape. Training sessions include a combination of shadow boxing, rounds on the Thai bag, pad work, speed work and calisthenics.
* SPECIAL NOTE: We have a couple pairs of “loaner” boxing gloves available for new students to use when trying out the class, but students are encouraged to get their own gloves as soon as possible.
Classes meet Tue + Thu at 6:15 PM and lasts 60 minutes.
In addition to our classes, we also offer one-on-one and semi-private lessons for all our services. This is an excellent option for people who are looking to expedite their progress, who are unable to make it to the gym during class times or who thrive in an environment where they get undivided individual attention. Whether you are trying to fill some gaps in your Jiu Jitsu, improve your kettlebell lifting technique, or just get an overall great workout, our private lessons are a great way to get the job done. An “open mat” session is where students get together to train on their own without a structured class format. Students can choose to spar, practice techniques shown by their instructor, or experiment with new techniques on their own. This time is typically scheduled by students schedule outside of class times and with the instructor’s approval. Check with our coaching staff for the best times for open mats each week.
